If you have successfully uploaded the dummy content you must have data in the Posts, Pages, Speakers, Sessions, etc.
You can check this by clicking on these sections of your Dashboard.
But note this is not enough, you must add the corresponding widgets to see them on the homepage. To do this, go to Appearance->Widgets to configure the homepage sidebar
